Patricia Munchel joined PAE in 2014 and leads Human Resources for the company. In this role, she is responsible for all aspects of the company’s talent strategy and the infrastructure supporting a growing global workforce of 20,000.
Motivation and the Big Picture
“I’ve always taken the approach that it’s important to understand where you contribute to the big picture and success of the company. It’s my job to not only help others have that vision, but to motivate and engage employees positively so that they can achieve what they’re working toward.”
Priorities Versus Balance
“It was when I was a director of HR for a previous company when the HR leader said that I should never feel as though I couldn’t ‘have it all. She said to work hard each day on what needs your attention the most, so I evolved it into priorities over balance. When you are prioritizing the right way, authentically being present and always challenging yourself to perform at a high level, you are fulfilled and will be recognized for these achievements.”
Leading Through Actions
“Leadership isn’t defined by hierarchy or an org chart, but by your personal attributes. You can inspire, model behaviors, voice challenges or opportunities and motivate action from anywhere in an organization. As a leader, I want to inspire and pave the way for others to achieve what they’re capable of achieving, not just what they think they can do. It’s less about trying to improve my leadership style, and more about effectively leading the unique way someone needs to be led. What drives the person? Some of this is recognizing and focusing on the strengths and potential of an individual.”
